Brazilian state to offer US$1.1bn road concession package

The government of Rio Grande do Sul state announced plans to offer a concession package to operate roads in the state for 30 years, with the expectation of generating investments for 6.7bn reais (US$1.1bn).

The package will comprise seven roads – ERS-128, ERS-129, ERS-130, ERS-135, ERS-324, RSC-453, and BR-470 – covering a total of 415km (see image below).

The state government plans to publish the notice for the contract in the first quarter of 2025, and the auction would take place 90 days after that, it said in a release.

Brazilian development bank BNDES will work on structuring the contract.

Of the 6.7bn reais to be invested during the 30-year concession term, the state government will assume the obligation to invest 1.3bn reais.

The main works will include widening 244km and constructing 103km of third lanes.
