Brazil’s Alupar widens Peru power sector footprint

Peru's energy and mines ministry has awarded contracts in a power transmission call as part of a reassignment process to fast-track US$78mn in projects.

The winner was Alupar Perú which picked up projects for substations Maravilla (138/60/23/10kV) and Puno Sur (138/22.9/10kV), and associated lines.

Alupar won with a bid of US$8.16 million for Maravilla and US$11.9mn for Puno Sur, procurement information shows.

Consorcio Eléctrico de Villacurí also had prequalified for the work, the process for which was launched in January.

The government established the mechanism in 2021 to reactivate complementary transmission system projects which are part of transmission investment plans previously approved by energy and mining investment regulator Osinergmin.

In Peru, Alupar owns a controlling stake in La Virgen which operates an 84MW hydroelectric plant.

And last year, the Brazilian group signed concession contracts with Peru’s government for power transmission concessions Lambayeque Norte and Piura Este.
