Brazil's BNDES to finance water cisterns initiative

Brazilian development bank BNDES will provide financing worth 100mn reais (US$30.3mn) to install water cisterns next year in semiarid areas of the country.

The funds will be used to install 6,800 water cisterns in nine states in the northeast region, BNDES said in a press release.

The cisterns will help low-income families in rural areas that have been affected by drought or lack of water.

Since 2013, BNDES has provided 271mn reais in financing for 25,000 water cisterns.
