Brazil’s Copel plans to invest 3bn reais (US$520mn) next year, up 25% from the investment projection for 2024.

Of the total, 2.5bn reais will go to distribution arm Copel Distribuição, in Paraná state, to fund projects in several areas, including for improved service quality, higher efficiency, and operational excellence.

This amount represents an increase of 20% from the distribution capex planned for 2024.

Generation and transmission unit Copel GeT accounts for 15% of next year’s investment program (464mn reais, up 75% from 2024) to bolster operating capacity.

In the generation area, 82.1mn reais will go to hydroelectric plants, and 76.8mn reais to wind farms.

On the transmission side, 205mn reais have been earmarked for reinforcements and improvements, and 16.6mn reais for additional investments.

Other projects, including the modernization of the company's generation and transmission operations center and improvements to substations, will receive 83.6mn reais.

Copel also plans to invest 9.1mn reais in the holding company, 4.5mn reais in power trading firm Copel Comercialização and 49.5mn reais in Copel Serviços.

In the nine first months of 2024, Copel invested 1.82bn reais or 76% of the capex planned for the year. Most of the investment went to distribution with 1.65bn reais, followed by generation and transmission with 128mn reais.
