Brazil's former president Bolsonaro ventures into graphene industry
Brazil's former president Jair Bolsonaro plans to present motorcycle equipment made of graphene, a mineral for which he promoted exploration during his mandate from 2019 to 2022.
Bolsonaro and one of his sons are among partners in Bravo Grafeno Tecnologia e Inovação, a company specialized in graphene products.
Graphene is lighter and stronger than steel and is used in the defense, semiconductor and smartphone sectors, among others.
Newspaper Folha de S. Paulo reported that the company will present a collection of helmets produced with graphene during a motorcycle parts expo in São Paulo next week.
Brazil is a global iron ore powerhouse, but local industry players are keen on attracting investors to other segments like copper and gold.
In related news, mining association Ibram and regulator ANM signed a technical cooperation agreement to train professionals working at the latter.
In a statement, Ibram CEO Raul Jungmann said that the agreement will strengthen the ANM, which "plays a fundamental role in the development of the mining sector in Brazil, and therefore, continuous improvement of its professionals is essential."
