Brazil's geological service demands better working conditions for staff

Brazil’s geological service (SGB) is demanding that the federal government improve working conditions and restructure the careers for its staff.

The head of the SGB, Inácio Melo, held a meeting with management and innovation minister Esther Dweck to present the civil servants' demands.

"We know the situation of the country, but we are here to raise awareness with the MGI about the need to pay attention to working conditions and the necessary adjustments in the company's careers," Melo said in a statement.

“The meeting highlights the government's willingness to discuss issues related to civil servants, seeking to ensure that careers at the SGB are structured in a way that promotes a fairer and more productive work environment," he added.

Civil servants working on issues related to mining have said that it is one of the areas that has received the least resources in recent years, despite the fact that the government considers it crucial to attract more investors to help develop the country's mining industry.

In recent months, employees at mining regulator ANM have carried out a series of strikes asking for more staff to be hired and for salaries to be raised.
