Brazil's Paraná state to invest US$120mn in water projects this year

Paraná's Sanepar plans to invest 730mn reais (US$118mn) this year in water projects in the Brazilian state's north.

Among the most important projects are four new reservoir centers in Londrina city, including five pumping stations.

The water utility will also build a 12km pipeline to connect Rolândia to the Tibagi system, which currently serves Londrina and Cambé. The pipeline is expected to transport 504m3/h to the city, resulting in a 30% increase in production.

"Works like these improve supply, provide reliability and operational security, and ensure the continuity of water supply," investment director Leura Conte de Oliveira said in a statement.

Record budget

Separately, the state presented a record 78.6bn-real budget for 2025.

Of this total, 6.3bn reais, 60% more than in 2024, will be used for investments across the state.

"Paraná has no time to waste, which is why we brought forward the start of the 2025 budget execution to the first business day of the year. The state is showing its presence, efficiency and active role in delivering this record budget to the citizens," finance secretary Norberto Ortigara said in a statement.

The record investment comes amid intensifying speculation about the presidential ambitions of center-right governor Carlos Massa Ratinho Junior. Elections are scheduled for October 2026.

The governor is currently serving his second term.
