Brazil's Salvador metro gets a new station

The government of Bahia state, in Brazilian northeast inaugurated a new station of the Salvador metro line 1 extension, section 3, while the full project is expected to be completed coming weeks.

The new station inaugurated was Campinas expanding the exiting network to 35 km from 33Km.

“We want, with this stretch, to implement at least 15,000 new users per day in the system," said Jusmari Oliveira, the Bahia state secretary of urban development in a press release.

The section 3 will also have the Águas Claras/Cajazeiras station, which will be connected to a new bus terminal and the new Salvador bus station. In total, the operation will cover approximately 38 km and the work is expected to be completed in July, said the state government. 

CCR Metro Bahia operates the network under a concession contract. 

According to BNamericas data base, the project involves extending line 1 of the Salvador metro to the neighborhoods of Campinas de Pirajá, Brasilgás, Águas Claras, and Cajazeiras. It is part of a plan, together with an extension from the Airport to Laura de Freitas.
