Brazil’s Santos port fine-tuning compliance terms to sign IoT deals

Officials at Santos port authority (SPA) in Brazil are assessing compliance and conformity issues in order to be able to advance on terms of cooperation with three companies interested in implementing an IoT project at the port, a spokesperson told BNamericas.

SPA said it expected to have these technical cooperation terms signed before the end of 2021. Now, the port administrator said that its legal department is reviewing compliance clauses before moving on with signing the terms. No new date has been given.

The port authority had received five proposals and selected four as part of a January 2021 call for studies on a project to deploy a long-range (LoRa) wireless network for IoT applications in the port, which is Latin America’s busiest.

The four qualified projects were from the companies Teltex Tecnologia, Next Level Telecom (NLT), Kore TM Data Processing Data and Movttel Participações.

The project submitted by International Security & Trading Corp. (ISTC) was disqualified for lacking the central (LoRa) IoT wireless networks.

SPA then moved on to drafting technical agreements, the terms of which were accepted by Movttel, NLT and Teltex Tecnologia, according to SPA. The port administrator did not say why Kore TM rejected the terms.

Once the compliance review is completed and the technical agreements are signed, these three companies will be allowed to go to the different port terminals and offer their services.

But the technical cooperation terms will also allow SPA to use the LoRa network signal provided by these companies free of charge throughout a testing phase, SPA previously told BNamericas.

“This initiative is strategic for the Port of Santos for optimizing port logistics, providing efficiency, security, speed, accuracy, connectivity and cost savings,” SPA previously said.
