Brazil's semi-manufactured iron, steel product exports to US grow in 2015

Brazil's semi-manufactured iron and steel products exports to the US from January to September rose to 2.26Mt compared with 2.12Mt in the same period of 2014, according to foreign trade department Secex.

Despite the increase in volumes, revenue fell 21.0% to US$866mn, Secex said.

Export volumes of unalloyed cast iron increased to 1.29Mt from 1.27Mt, while revenue slumped 22.8% to US$390mn.

Semi-manufactured steel alloy product shipments fell to 908,873t from 1.13Mt, with revenue reaching US$365mn, down 38.7% year-on-year.

Shipments of ferroniobium to the US decreased to 7,013t from 7,653t in the first nine months, with revenue falling 11.2% to US$182mn.

Meanwhile, pellet exports skyrocketed to 1.37Mt from 223,567t, and revenue jumped 306% to US$125mn.

Alumina exports increased to 294,562t from 178,607t and revenue was up 83.5% to US$87.8mn.

Brazil's total exports to the US in the period declined 9.3% to US$18.2bn. The main products exported were crude oil, turbojet and turboprop components, coffee, semi-manufactured iron and steel and wood pulp, which together accounted for around 28% of total revenue.
