Brazil's supreme court to help negotiate Onça Puma restart
The Brazilian supreme court will mediate in talks between Vale subsidiary Mineração Onça Puma, officials of Ourilândia do Norte municipality and Pará state representatives, including the public prosecutor, to help restart operations at the Onça Puma nickel mine.
The talks will take place on May 27, the supreme court said in a statement.
In February, Pará’s environmental secretariat suspended the mining permit, alleging non-compliance with regulations, and although the company was able to reverse the decision, the state suspended the license again in April.
The local labor union urges the reactivation of the license, given that Onça Puma activity impacts 3,900 workers.
