Brazil's Volta Redonda announces new metal-mechanic hub
The municipality of Volta Redonda, in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro state, announced investments of 300mn reais (US$80.9mn) over a six-year period for the creation of a local metal-mechanic hub.
The new hub results from a partnership between the city, the state, and steelmaker CSN, which is the largest company headquartered in the region (pictured). A conduct adjustment term (TAC) between the parties was signed on October 18, according to the city's official website.
Companies set to be installed in the hub include Multiaços, Steel Service, Brastil (Mastra), Tuberfil, Soufer, Kloeckner & Co, Perfimax e Prada Embalagem.
CSN president Benjamin Steinbruch said that the implementation of the metal-mechanic hub will make a definitive and profound mark on the region.
"This is an historic moment. All the surrounding municipalities will benefit," Steinbruch said, referring to the new companies arriving in the municipality and to the investment that the company will make.
CSN is Brazil's third largest steelmaker and also operates in the cement, energy and logistics sectors.
