Brief: Etecsa rolls out internet offer for rural areas
Cuba's state-owned telecoms operator Etecsa rolled out an internet connectivity service for rural areas costing a third of that in cities, according to its website.
The new Nauta Hogar fixed internet service will offer 30 hours of connectivity at a speed of 512/256Kbps for a price of 5 CUCs, the equivalent of US$5. It includes the purchase of an ADSL modem in up to 12 monthly installments, the company said.
Current Nauta Hogar proces for cities start at 15 CUCs for 30 hours at 1,024/256Kbps.
The new service is available in the provinces of Pinar del Río, Matanzas, Cienfuegos, Sancti Spíritus, Ciego de Ávila, Las Tunas, Granma and Guantánamo, the company added.
Etecsa has recently been moving toward offering new internet services including mobile connectivity via its 3G network, as well as a new messaging social network called ToDus.
