Brief: Prysmian's new Brazil plant to open in Q4
Italian cabling firm Prysmian plans to inaugurate a new facility in Brazil during the fourth quarter of this year.
The facility will host the company HQ, administration, production line and R&D operations.
The so-called "center of excellence" is being built in Sorocaba, São Paulo state, at a cost of 150mn reais (US$42.4mn). Production is currently located at a smaller site in Santo André, also in São Paulo state.
Prysmian's Brazilian operation posted 1.5bn reais in net revenue last year, down nearly 7% y-o-y due mostly to a 50% decline in sales to the oil and gas industry. Sales to the telecom and energy industries grew 8% and 3%, respectively. Exports, especially to South American countries, represented 22% of the 2017 sales.
