Tegucigalpa, November 1, 2024. – The Central American Bank for Economic Integration ( CABEI ) made a first disbursement of US$75.9 million of a total of US$606.9 million allocated to the “Honduras Resilient Roads Program (PCR-HN)” . Through this initiative, it is expected to improve the country's competitiveness and the quality of life of more than two million Hondurans.

The program is designed to foster economic and social growth by improving land connectivity, covering 308 kilometers in five strategic sections in the northern and eastern regions of the country. This first disbursement will facilitate progress in the rehabilitation and expansion works of the 78 kilometers of the Danlí-Trojes highway, scheduled to begin between November and December of this year.

In addition to the rehabilitation of the Danlí-Trojes section, the PCR-HN includes interventions on the Ojo de Agua-Cantarranas highways, rehabilitation of an important central connection, and on the Tourist Corridor, which connects La Barca-El Progreso with Tela and La Ceiba, a crucial link between tourist destinations in the north. It is estimated that these works will benefit 175,000 drivers who travel daily on these routes, generating 3,600 temporary jobs during the construction phase.

These investments will facilitate the transport of goods and people, promoting balanced trade in exports and imports, which will contribute to strengthening the national economy and creating new job opportunities.

The State Secretariat for Infrastructure and Transport ( SIT ) is the executing agency of the program. It will oversee the execution of the works and their subsequent maintenance. This approach guarantees the quality and sustainability of the road improvements.
