CAF money to alleviate mining pollution problems

Bnamericas
Funds from the recently agreed US$30mn Andean Development Corporation (CAF) loan will be used to alleviate contamination problems from mining projects affecting the city of Potosi, Bolivia's El Diario reported. Work on the 18-month project is due to start before the end of the year using US$3.4mn from the fund, which provides resources for sanitation works. This will include a dike to contain mining waste that is discharged into the river system and contaminates the sewer system of Potosi. The CAF loan is for a program of works to improve and increase water and sewer system coverage in the departments of Cochabamba, Santa Cruz, Potosi and Chuquisaca.
