CAMIMEX appoints Pedro Rivero González as its new president

Mexico City, July 16, 2024. In an Ordinary Assembly, the Board of Directors of the Mexican mining chamber (CAMIMEX) appointed Engineer Pedro Rivero González as the new president of the organization, replacing Engineer José Jaime Gutiérrez Núñez, who served the term for which he was elected.

Pedro Rivero González, originally from Monterrey, Nuevo León, is the current CEO of Autlán, a leading company in the responsible use of various natural resources in America and Europe. Previously, he was Vice President of Operations of this company where he led important efforts in the organic growth and sustainability of the company. Furthermore, throughout almost two decades of work in Autlán, he has participated in all areas, promoting the creation of important investment projects, from the opening of mines, improvement of facilities, environmental remediation projects and metallurgical projects for the beneficiation of minerals, among others.

Rivero González is a graduate of Columbia University, where he obtained a double degree in Engineering in Administration Systems and Economics. In addition, he has an MBA from INSEAD, one of the most prestigious business schools in the world.

In his role as CEO, which he assumed on April 5, 2021 following approval by the Autlán Board of Directors, Pedro Rivero has continued to drive the company, consolidating its position in the market and promoting innovation and sustainability.

In addition to his work in Autlán, he is a leading figure in Mexico's mining and steel sector. He is Vice President of CANACERO (National Chamber of the Iron and Steel Industry), member of the Board of Directors of CAMIMEX and Vice President of COPARMEX NL (Employers' Confederation of the Mexican Republic in Nuevo León).

During his inauguration, Pedro Rivero noted that “the objective of the mining sector is clear: to support the industries, the economy, the country, in the mitigation of climate change and the transition towards a sustainable scheme of shared prosperity and justice. Responsible and conscious mining is a key piece in this process, because it is the first link in the value chain that provides the necessary inputs to develop clean technologies and sustainable solutions.”

Likewise, he stressed that in his administration, one of the priorities will be to “encourage dialogue with the authorities, and with all the necessary instances, at the same time as strengthening the ties of union with the chambers and related associations, to promote a public policy that promotes responsible mining in Mexico.”

For his part, Francisco Cervantes, president of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE), indicated that "this industry is iconic, not only in the Mexican business environment, but also in national culture. Likewise, this industry is an example of social vocation, for the opportunity it has given hundreds of communities to access jobs, and more than 72,000 women work in this sector at all levels from operations to CEOs.”

Meanwhile, Eduardo Ramírez, general secretary of the Confederation of Industrial Chambers (CONCAMIN) highlighted the importance of working together, since mining is the beginning of more productive chains and the engine of development of 70 other sectors. He also declared that “responsible mining promoted by the Mexican Mining Chamber has generated significant development and well-being in more than 690 communities throughout the country.”

The Chamber of Mines of Mexico and all those who collaborate in it extend recognition to its outgoing president, José Jaime Gutiérrez, who held the presidency from September 2021 to July 2024. We appreciate his leadership and his special interest in the development of standards and best practices for the industry. His role as an interlocutor for the mining industry has been fundamental in a time full of challenges. Jaime Gutiérrez has always faced each challenge with a determination that is at the same time a guide and example and has kept our sector united.

The Board of Directors of CAMIMEX welcomes Pedro Rivero González, who will continue to promote responsible mining and guide such an important industry for the country towards a strengthened, sustainable and prosperous future. The Mining Chamber wishes him the best of success in his management.
