Carbon steelmaker to start operations in Chubut

Argentina's metal products manufacturer Talleres Integrales Patagonicos SA, in the southern province of Chubut, is to set up a joint venture carbon steel company with an unnamed Buenos Aires firm, local press reported. The JV company, to be called Aceros Patagonicos, will make carbon steel 140mm to 200mm thick which will then be sent to Buenos Aires for forging and sale on the domestic market. To make this type of steel, scrap metal from the local oil industry is to be used, contributing added value to the material as well as generating work for the region's inhabitants. A second stage to the joint venture would consist in making steel alloys. Aceros Patagonicos will start smelting and casting within a month, according to the reports.
