The Dominican Republic’s national energy commission (CNE) has rejected Koror Business’ latest request to postpone the start of construction of the 50MW El Soco solar project.

In February, Koror filed a third extension request due to the uncertainty related to the launch of a renewable energy supply call, so that the project could compete equally and not run the risk of losing its definitive concession.

The CNE said, however, that “there are no reasonable circumstances to consider that can make the term extension admissible and be considered, as this is a third request, where the most recent approval on August 28, 2019 included the presentation of a new work schedule as a requirement which has not been fulfilled.”

BNamericas was unable to contact Koror for comment.

Puerto Rico energy regulator NEPR approved new amendments as part of renegotiated non-operational renewable energy power purchase and operating agreements.

The changes are to contracts between power utility Prepa and the companies Guayama Solar Energy, Sierra Solar Farm, Solar Project San Juan and Vega Baja Solar Project, which will save an estimated US$80mn, US$100mn, US$60mn and US$50mn, respectively, according to information from the watchdog.

Guayama and Sierra each plan to build 25 solar plants, San Juan a 20MW solar park and Vega a 15MW plant.
