The Existing Energy Auctions (LEE) organized by the Electric Energy Trading Chamber – CCEE and the National Electric Energy Agency – ANEEL this Friday (6) traded approximately 2,130.3 MW on average, a volume almost three times greater than the auctions held at the end of 2023. The broad competitiveness of the operations will generate savings of more than R$ 1.15 billion for Brazilian consumers. In total, the financial amount traded was R$ 6.04 billion.

"The results show that the auctions were successful in achieving their goals of bringing efficiency to energy contracting in the sector and savings to Brazilian consumers. We carried out a simple, efficient and safe competitive process, which led to a volume of participation from sellers and buyers that we have not seen in years. Once again, the partnership between CCEE and ANEEL generates gains for the population, attractiveness for investors and balance for the market", highlighted Alexandre Ramos, Chairman of the Board of Directors of CCEE.

LEE A-1, with supply starting on January 1, 2025, generated R$4.6 billion for the contracting of 1,621 average megawatts. The discount recorded was 18.88%, which allowed for savings of R$1.072 billion compared to the initial price. LEE A-2, which foresees energy supply starting on January 1, 2026, totaled R$1.4 billion in transactions for the acquisition of 508.8 average megawatts. The negotiation had an average discount of 5.26% and generated savings of R$79.7 million compared to the ceiling price. There were no product negotiations in LEE A-3.

ANEEL director Fernando Mosna, who reported on the auctions, highlighted that the auctions demonstrate the progress of the Brazilian electricity sector since the first energy auction held by the Agency and CCEE in 2004. “At that time, the aim was to diversify the energy matrix, which was already renewable, with 76% of hydroelectric power. Today, solar and wind sources, which were non-existent at the time, account for 33% of our energy matrix. This fact shows how important planning is in the electricity sector and how joint action by the entities can achieve great feats such as those we have seen in the last 20 years.”

The auctions were held in virtual format and the full results can be seen on the CCEE website .
