Brazil's Ceara state water utility Cagece has invested more than 116mn reais (US$43.7mn) on its rural communities treated water supply project ("Projeto São José" in Portuguese) since 1995, the state government reported. This year, the program, which is benefiting close to 134,000 families in 168 interior municipalities, performed 258 works in 109 municipalities, which represents 55% of the project's entire works to date. Cagece is the project coordinator. The World Bank is financing 75% of the project, the state government 15% and local water supply associations the remainder.
