CELEC EP promotes the digital transformation of the National Transmission System (SNT)

The United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA - US Trade and Development Agency) finances technical assistance to formulate the Digital Modernization Project of the National Transmission System (SNT), which is carried out by the Electricity Corporation of Ecuador (CELEC EP ).

On May 18, 2022, an agreement was signed between USTDA and the Electricity Corporation of Ecuador (CELEC EP) to finance specialized technical assistance services, for a value of USD 791,500, non-reimbursable.

Subsequently, on April 18, 2023, the call for American consultants to submit their offers was published on the USTDA portal. The maximum period established for this purpose was June 2, 2023, the date on which four internationally prestigious firms were received. At the moment, the offers are being evaluated for the final decision to be made and the start of the consulting process.

The selected consultant will develop the studies for this project, which aims to formulate a strategy and master plan for the implementation of digital transformation to improve, optimize and innovate the National Transmission System over a 10-year horizon.

This plan is aimed at supporting energy efficiency objectives, operational resilience, operation optimization, greater flexibility to integrate renewable energy sources, development of new services, creation of new business models, improvement of electricity service, environmental responsibility and financial sustainability. , from a comprehensive perspective of development and strengthening of business capabilities and specification of an objective architecture based on standards and good practices.

The SNT is made up of 70 substations with a transformation capacity of 16,886.20 MVA, 6,267.99 km of transmission lines and 6,061.80 km of optical fiber, which transports electrical energy from the generation plants to the consumption centers and delivery to the distribution company. CELEC EP, committed to the energy and digital transformation, develops actions to modernize its technological infrastructure.
