Celpe formalizes industrial contracts
Bnamericas Published: Tuesday, March 16, 2004
Brazil's Pernambuco state distributor Celpe has formalized some 4,000 contracts with industrial clients in the last three years to meet requirements from national electricity regulator Aneel, newspaper Gazeta Mercantil reported. Aneel could punish distributors that do not formalize contracts, a process that consists of the client identifying how much power it wants to contract and working out which tariff range would best suit it. Celpe has some 4,500 industrial clients, representing only 0.2% of total client numbers, but 35% of sales income and 50% of sales volume, which in 2003 totaled 7,633GWh. The Guaraniana consortium controls Celpe.
