CentAm ministers to consider climate change in transport planning

Members of the sectoral council of transportation ministers of Central America (Comitran) met in Honduras this week to discuss creating a regional policy for transport and logistics, as well as the incorporation of climate change considerations into infrastructure planning.

Comitran is formed by the transportation ministers of Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica and Panama.

The ministers also reviewed a manual that incorporates technical considerations regarding water for the development of infrastructure projects in the region, according to a report by Honduran daily La Tribuna.

The document was prepared by the Honduras transport ministry INSEP with the assistance of representatives of Japan's international cooperation agency JICA.

The manual aims to serve as a guideline to measure each country's progress in this area, with the objective of using the resulting information to evaluate the implementation of new transport strategies.

During the meeting, INSEP handed over the chair of COMITRAN – which it had held for the past six months – to Nicaragua's transport ministry MTI.
