CentAm firm lands Nicaragua solar project contract

Nicaragua’s state water utility Enacal awarded and signed an 18-month contract to build a 15MW solar photovoltaic array.

The winner was Honduran firm Ingenieros Consultores y Constructores Electromecánicos which offered US$15mn, procurement information shows.

The other bidders were Soluciones en Baterías, Suministros Eléctricos, Consorcio Izamak-Eductrade, Consorcio Malpaisillo (Powerchina Zhongnan Engineering-Yellow River), Consorcio CCECC-CRCC 15 (Shanghai Eco-Power Development, China Civil Engineering Construction), and Servicios Técnicos de Alta Tensión.

The project falls under a program to improve and expand potable water and sanitation systems financed by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration. The call was reissued in October.

Enacal plans to install the plant in Malpaisillo in the municipality of Larreynaga, León department.

Honduras’ state power company Enee launched bidding to advance the overhaul of the 20.8MW Cañaveral-Río Lindo hydro complex.

The contract falls under an IDB-JICA financing package and includes the rehabilitation of sluice gates and hoists, and penstock valves, and replacing pipe expansion joint gaskets, among other work.
