Central America energy watch: LNG terminal, regulatory tweak, grid clearance

Génesis Energías plans to build an LNG terminal at Honduras’ Cortés port to receive a floating storage unit (FSU), according to company representative Ignacio Cheret.

The project would cost around US$200mn and be built on property of state port administrator ENP, local paper El Heraldo quoted Cheret as saying.

The terminal would supply thermoelectric plant Brassavola and look to introduce LNG to a wider market.

Regulatory tweak

Panama’s public services regulator Asep opened consultation for a proposal to establish a procedure for the presentation, processing, evaluation and decision-making regarding force majeure as an exemption for power distributors from liability in compliance with quality standards related to customer and non-customer service.

Grid clearance

El Salvador’s state power transmission company Etesal secured authorization to connect the Tamanique substation in La Libertad department to Central America’s transmission network (RTR).

Etesal filed the connection request with power interconnection commission CRIE in August.

In its approval, CRIE said the project would not impact the quality and safety of El Salvador’s system or the operational capacity of the RTR. Tamanique will connect to the Talnique substation via a 115kV line.
