Central America power watch: Grid build-out, solar project permitting, electromobility

Central America power interconnection commission CRIE approved a request from EPR, operator of regional grid Siepac.

The greenlight is for a project to add a second circuit to Siepac, specifically lines between substations Agua Caliente in Honduras and Sandino in Nicaragua, and substations La Virgen in Nicaragua and Fortuna in Costa Rica.

Estimated investment for Agua Caliente-Sandino and La Virgen-Fortuna is US$25.6mn and US$19.8mn, respectively, according to the CRIE approval resolution available in the Documents box in the top-right corner of the screen.

Solar project permitting

Energías Renovables filed an environmental impact study with Panama’s environment ministry for the 3.96MW Sun solar project.

The park is planned for Herrera province, would cost US$3mn and take around a year to build.

The developer holds a provisional license for the project granted by public services regulator Asep.

Electromobility

The UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean released a study on electromobility for Costa Rica’s public transport system.

The research, also available in the Documents box, looks at business models, macroeconomic costs and benefits, estimated investment, and legal barriers and solutions, among other areas.
