Wärtsilä began site work for Energía del Pacífico's 378MW LNG-fired power plant (pictured, rendering of planned complex) in El Salvador following ground breaking last month.

"The power plant will operate on nineteen Wärtsilä 50SG engines and a steam turbine in combined cycle, reaching a net plant efficiency of close to 50%," the Finnish company said in a statement.

Wärtsilä will also provide O&M for the project, which is due online in 2021.

Nicaragua's government unveiled a 2019-21 priority investments roadmap that includes projects in all sectors for a combined US$11.1bn, of which US$1.43bn are for projects underway since 2016, US$1.07bn for works that have secured financing and will begin this year, and US$8.58bn for projects that have yet to obtain funds.

Energy projects underway, ones that have secured financing and ones that have yet to obtain funds total US$478mn, US$197mn and US$3.82bn, respectively.
