Central America roundup: Offshore wind, consultancy call, solar project permitting

The region of La Cruz de Guanacaste on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast has the country’s greatest technical potential for offshore wind power.

The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (Cabei) made the announcement following a study carried out with support of the country’s state power company ICE and financed by Cabei and Korea through the Korea-CABEI Partnership Single-Donor Trust Fund.

“The studies pointed out the importance of carrying out an exhaustive analysis of the marine-coastal infrastructure with the need to carry out strategic interventions such as the modernization of ports, the development of new submarine cables, and the incorporation of advanced technologies, among others,” the bank said.

Cabei did not immediately respond to a request for a copy of the study.

Consultancy call

EOR, operator of Central America’s Siepac power grid, launched bidding to draft a proposal to update the regional power market’s transmission rights regulation.

Offers are due October 4, according to procurement information available in the Documents box in the top right corner.

Solar project permitting

Jagüito Green Energy I, Jagüito Green Energy II and Jagüito Green Energy III filed environmental impact studies with Panama’s environment ministry for three solar projects.

The solar parks are planned for Coclé province, and each plant would boast 9.9MWac, cost US$5mn and take 10 months to build.

The developer holds provisional licenses for the projects granted by public services regulator Asep.
