Cerrado Gold requests installation license for Brazil project

Canada's Cerrado Gold has requested an installation license for its US$126mn Monte do Carmo gold project, in the Brazilian state of Tocantins.

The company said in a statement that it made the request with the state’s environmental authority, Instituto Natureza do Tocantins (Naturatins).

Cerrado expects to obtain the license in around three months and then start construction.

The Monte do Carmo project is wholly owned by Cerrado and totals 82,541ha of concessions. At the location it is developing the Serra Alta deposit.

The company is currently progressing with the feasibility study for Serra Alta, saying it remains on schedule for completion by October 31.

In Brazil, the installation license is part of the environmental approval process for mining projects, comprising three phases of preliminary, installation and operation licenses.
