  • With the expansion of the Mayakan energy gas pipeline, transportation capacity will be doubled and the interconnection with the Southeast Gate marine project that transports natural gas from Texas, United States will be consolidated.

- Energía Mayakan is a subsidiary of the ENGIE Group, which, together with its other subsidiaries in Mexico, is a provider of energy solutions to more than 4 million Mexicans, will be in charge of the construction of this work that will guarantee the transportation of Natural Gas to the generation of electrical energy demanded by the Yucatan Peninsula.

- ENGIE's ambition is to contribute to the energy system of tomorrow with a reliable and affordable energy system, based on the combination of molecules and electrons, flexible technologies, decarbonization solutions and a strong infrastructure network.

The Federal Electricity Commission ( CFE ) and Energía Mayakan signed an agreement for the expansion of the Mayakan gas pipeline, which aims to guarantee the transportation of Natural Gas for the generation of energy demanded by the Yucatan Peninsula.

The agreement between the parastatal led by Lic. Manuel Bartlett Díaz, General Director of the CFE and the subsidiary company of the French group with more than 25 years of presence in Mexico, represented by Felisa Ros, Country Manager of ENGIE means a historic boost to the south-southeast region of the country.

This work will trigger economic development and attract investments, as well as the possibility of reducing the costs of electricity generation, which will be positively reflected in the electricity bills of the millions of users in the 4 states that make up this strategic territory that They are Chiapas, Campeche, Tabasco and Yucatán.

The CFE is building two new combined cycle power plants on the peninsula:
Mérida IV, with a capacity of 499 MW and Rivera Maya in the municipality of Valladolid, with a capacity of 1,020 MW. With this infrastructure it will be possible to face the energy challenges of the region and the demand that the industry requires for its development.

In addition to improving the security of supply in the region, these two new high-performance plants will avoid the emission of 4.6 million tons of CO₂ to Yucatán, compared to the import of energy from other parts of the country.

The expansion of Mayakan will allow the natural gas transportation capacity to be doubled, going from 250 to 567 million cubic feet per day, through the construction of more than 700 kilometers of pipeline, in addition to favoring the interconnection with the Puerta del Sureste project. , which provides Natural Gas by sea from Brownsville, Texas, to Tuxpan and Coatzacoalcos, in Veracruz; and Paraíso, Tabasco, which will interconnect with Mayakan in Cactus, Chiapas. If all the plants connected to the complete Mayakan gas pipelines are considered, 7.4 million tons of CO₂ are avoided in Yucatán.

According to Felisa Ros, “The signing of this agreement establishes the commitment to transport Natural Gas in a reliable, continuous and efficient manner to the area, and to achieve a competitive rate that will allow us to meet the objective set by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. to avoid increases in the electricity rates of the
region".

With this, ENGIE and ENGIE México reiterate their commitment to the Government of Mexico and to all Mexicans to support the energy transition and accompany policies that help democratize access to competitive and clean energy for all.
