Chevron denies Colombia fuel shortages
Chevron has denied reports of dwindling fuel stocks at its chain of Texaco service stations and airport depots in Colombia.
In a statement issued on Friday, Chevron said that gasoline, diesel and jet fuel inventories were at normal levels.
"Speculation on social media about a deficit does not correspond to reality," the company said. "We reiterate our commitment to the energy security of the country," it added.
According to its website, Chevron operates a Colombia-wide network of nearly 460 Texaco service stations and supplies jet fuel at airports in Bogotá, Cali and San Andrés.
It has a market share of 12% for automotive fuels, 24% for aviation fuel and 17% for lubricants. Chevron also has stakes in 10 fuel terminals in the Andean country, four owned and six jointly operated.
The comments came less than a week after airlines were forced to cancel dozens of flights while operations were suspended at three Colombian airports because of a jet fuel shortage. On Thursday, the government said the supply chain problems had been resolved.
