Chile launches 4 tenders for roadworks in southern regions

Four roadworks tenders involving some 50bn pesos (US$53mn) in total were launched by Chile’s public works ministry (MOP) on Wednesday. 

The contracts involve works on a total of some 40km roads in the southern Biobío, Los Lagos and Magallanes regions. 

The projects are the following:

Concepción-Chiguayante highway widening. Stage 2 (13.5bn pesos): Involves widening a 2.4km section of the road linking Biobío region’s capital Concepción and the nearby Chiguayante municipality. The contract covers the section between Binimellis street and 8 Oriente avenue in Chiguayante, bidding documents show.

Technical proposals will be opened on September 13, while economic offers will follow on September 27. Documents can be seen here (in Spanish). 

Calafate-Russfín road. Stage 1 (11.1bn pesos): Consists of building an 11.8km road for light vehicles linking the Porvenir and Timaukel municipalities in the southernmost Magallanes region.

Technical bids are set to be opened on September 25, while economic offers will be unveiled on October 3. Documents can be seen here. 

Route U-350 improvement. Cuquimo-Cunamo stretch (12bn pesos): Contract entails upgrading an 11.4km stretch linking the city of Osorno with San Juan de la Costa municipality in Los Lagos region.

Technical offers for the contract will be opened on October 2 and economic bids on October 10. Documents can be seen here.

Completion of improvements to the Caleta Gonzalo-General Manuel Feliú bridge stretch of route 7 (13bn pesos): The project was originally awarded to construction firm San Felipe but had its contract terminated last year amidst allegations of contract abandonment in this and other works, according to a report sent to the lower house of congress earlier this year. 

The project involves improving a 13.9km section of the route, also dubbed the Austral highway, linking the fishing village of Caleta Gonzalo and the Caleta Gonzalo-General Manuel Feliú bridge in Chaitén municipality in Los Lagos region.

The opening dates are set for September 13 for technical offers and September 27 for economic bids. Documents can be seen here.
