Chile opens consultation on proposed national datacenter plan
Chile launched a public consultation on its national datacenter plan, announced in May and with which the country expects to attract at least US$2bn in investments.
Comments and contributions can be submitted through November 20 by individuals, companies and organizations via this link.
They will be used to outline goals and measures and to define the plan's details.
The plan establishes a series of actions aimed at “promoting the sustainable growth of the datacenter industry in Chile, creating a favorable environment for investment and ensuring that this technological development is aligned with the socio-environmental needs of the territory,” the government said in a statement.
Chile wants to position itself as an attractive destination for datacenters leveraging its renewable energy availability, 62,000km of terrestrial fiber, 3.8mn devices connected to the 5G network, and 69,000km of submarine cables.
The government estimates there are 22 medium and large datacenters operating along the Santiago-Valparaíso axis.
