Chile schedules US$730mn in public works tenders for September-October

Chile’s public works ministry (MOP) has scheduled 375 contracts involving investments of 671 billion pesos (US$732 million) to be tendered in September and October, which include works, studies, designs and consultancies, among others.

The lion’s share of the investment comes from the MOP’s roadworks division, with 325bn pesos, according to documents from the ministry’s planning department Dirplan.

In total, 173 contracts are for physical works, 109 are for consultancies, 38 are for studies, 52 are for engineering designs, two are for materials and construction supplies and one is listed as being for competitive funds under a special agreement from the roadworks department. 

The biggest projects to be auctioned over the next two months are: 

North coastal road improvement. Boyeruca-route J-60 intersection (45.8bn pesos): With a tender scheduled for September, the project involves building a 49.7km road between Boyeruca in Vichuquén municipality (Maule region) and the Mataquito bridge in Licantén. 

Route 27-CH improvement. San Pedro de Atacama-Jama border pass. Section I (39bn pesos): Expected to be auctioned during September, the works entail upgrading a 39.4km section of route 27-CH, which is the road from the town of San Pedro de Atacama (Antofagasta region) to the Jama pass on the border with Argentina. 

Route 11 improvement. Arica-Tambo Quemado pass. Route 5-Rosario (25bn pesos): This tender is also scheduled for September. The project consists of improving an 18.4km stretch of route 11 between the road’s intersection with the route 5 highway and Rosario train station in Arica y Parinacota region, according to documents from the social development ministry’s project database (BIP).

Ñuble interior inter-municipal road improvements (23.3bn pesos): The tender for these works was pushed back from July to September. They entail improving 35.5km of a road linking several municipalities within the Itata valley in Ñuble región. 

Advisory role in fiscal inspection. Northern airport network. (16.1bn pesos): This tender was also delayed until September. The contract involves providing advisory services for the fiscal inspection of a concession for the operation and expansion of Atacama and Antofagasta airports. The concession received a single bid from a consortium comprising Sacyr and Cointer.

Reconstruction of Valparaíso Teletón rehabilitation center for the disabled (16bn pesos): This is another tender that was pushed back from August to September. It entails building a new 5,100m2 rehabilitation facility for the Teletón foundation in Valparaíso region’s namesake capital.

Quilque rain collector system. Stage 2 (14.5bn pesos): This contract is expected to be auctioned in October. It is part of a wider plan to upgrade a rain collector system serving 70% of the urban area in the city of Los Ángeles (Biobío region). Works in this phase involve replacing a water intake on the Chacaico canal, replacing three bridges and improving a section of the Quilque river between Villagrán and Arturo Prat streets.

Quilque rain collector system. Stage 3 (14.5bn): Also scheduled for October, this stage covers another section of works on the Quilque river between Villagrán and Marconi streets, and the replacement of two bridges. 

Route 15CH improvements. Tarapacá access-Alto Pachica section (13.9bn pesos): This tender was pushed back from July to September. It involves upgrading an 18.2km stretch of route 15Ch between the access road to the town of Tarapacá and the Alto Pachica viewpoint in Tarapacá region.

CONCESSIONS

MOP’s concessions division plans to auction 18 contracts in September and October, not counting the concession contracts themselves. 

Of these 14 are for advisory services during fiscal inspections, while two are for business studies, one is for feasibility studies and the last is for project management consultancy. 

The standout contracts include business studies for the Chonchi-Quellón section of route 5 and the Valparaíso cable car system, which are scheduled for September and October, respectively.
