Chile submits EIS for US$2.5bn metro line

Chile’s subway operator Metro de Santiago has submitted the environmental impact study (EIS) for the US$2.53bn line No. 7 of the capital’s network.

The EIS states that the project is expected to begin construction on September 1, 2020 and start operations in 2026.

The 26km line will have 19 stations, linking the Renca, Cerro Navia, Quinta Normal, Santiago, Providencia, Vitacura and Las Condes districts of Santiago. It will also have connections with lines 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6.

The project includes an extension to line No. 6, which will now reach Las Condes in order to link with the new line.

Line No. 7 is expected to benefit 1.3mn residents and reduce overcrowding on line No. 1 by 20% during rush hour.
