Chile to launch another 5G tender
Chile plans to award new 5G spectrum in the 3.5GHz band next year.
The call for a public tender held by regulator Subtel for 50MHz in the 3400-3600GHz range was published in the official gazette.
The tender rules will be available from October 16. Queries will be received between October 17 and November 7. Applications may be submitted January 16-23 and bid opening will take place electronically on January 24.
In 2021, WOM, Movistar and Entel obtained 50MHz each in the 3.5GHz band. The operators are in the technology deployment stage.
The new contest would allow ClaroVTR to enter the 5G market. The company had initially been authorized to use part of its 3.5GHz spectrum for 5G, but the supreme court scrapped the permit.
Previously awarded for fixed wireless services, Claro has 60MHz and VTR 30MHz in the band,
