Chile to start construction of Atacama cancer hospital in coming weeks
Construction of a cancer hospital in Copiapó in Chile’s Atacama region will start in late December or early January, as civil works contractor Moller & Pérez Cotapos is about to receive the land for the project.
While the awarding resolution for the 44.4bn-peso (US$45.5mn) contract was issued on August 30, the land will be delivered on December 5, daily Diario Atacama quoted governor Miguel Vargas as saying.
Overall, the hospital demands 60bn pesos, including equipment.
The company expects to finish the 8,812m2 complex by 2027.
Vargas was reelected on Sunday and promised to sharpen the focus on health infrastructure during his second four-year term, with projects that are funded by his administration and the health ministry.
