Bnamericas

Authorities in Chile authorized the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine candidate.

Director of public health Heriberto García said the country was prepared logistically to receive the vaccines.

People aged 16 and over will be eligible to get the jab.

The news comes after officials introduced weekend lockdowns in Santiago metropolitan region following an uptick in cases.

The US, Canada and UK have also approved the Pfizer/BioNTech product. In the region, Mexico, Costa Rica and Panama have also greenlighted it.

Chile’s pensions watchdog SP has tightened security and cybersecurity rules that the country’s private pension fund managers, or AFPs as they are known, must follow.

A central aim is protecting personal and other sensitive data.

The rules – which outline management’s duties and are scheduled to enter force in July 2021 – complement existing risk management regulations and are based on best practice, SP said in a document detailing the changes.
