Chilean group secures Peru solar project concession

Peru’s energy and mines ministry granted a definitive concession for the dispatch component of the 110MW Sol de Verano I solar project.

The concession is for the 14.5km, 138kV Sol de Verano I-Majes transmission line in the southern region of Arequipa that is under development by Majes Sol de Verano, which is controlled by Chile-based Verano Energy.

Majes requested the transmission concession in November and already secured environmental approval for the US$90mn photovoltaic project.

For its part, grid coordinator COES previously greenlighted the pre-operational study for the 45.3MW first phase, while the 64.7MW second phase is under review.

Each stage will take around a year to complete.

Arequipa is home to two of the country’s nine operating solar plants: Majes and Repartición, each 20MW.
