Chilean miner submits EIA for US$60mn nitrate project

Chilean miner Cosayach submitted an environmental impact assessment (EIA) for a US$60mn project involving a nitrate salt processing plant in northern Tarapacá region.

The project comprises a solar evaporation unit with 14 pools and a processing plant to produce 200t of potassium nitrate and 120t of sodium nitrate per year, according to the document submitted to environmental evaluation service SEA.

Works are expected to begin in March 2023, while operations would last for 20 years.
