Chilean municipality submits EIA for wastewater treatment system
The municipality of Llay Llay in central Chile’s Valparaíso region submitted an environmental impact assessment for a US$12.3mn wastewater treatment plant that will serve residents of rural El Porvenir neighborhood and have a water reuse component.
The project involves a treatment plant with capacity of 16.5l/s, a 29.2km sewer network and 10 pumping stations, according to the EIA presented to environmental review agency SEA.
The treated wastewater will be used for local agriculture.
The municipality pointed out that residents of El Porvenir are outside the concession zone of local water utility Esval, and many of them do not have access to regular wastewater services, creating sanitary problems.
Work on both the treatment plant and sewer network are expected to begin during the second half of 2025 and wrap up in the first half of 2026.
The EIA can be seen here.
