Subtel press release

December 6, 2024

According to data provided in the tenth survey of "Access, Uses and Internet Users in Chile” (2023) by the Undersecretariat of Telecommunications and Cadem, 94.3% of the country's inhabitants have access to the Internet at home; of that number, 54.6% have fixed and mobile connections, 21.5% have only mobile connections, and 16.7% have only fixed connections.

In this context and according to the latest series of Subtel statistics, as of September 2024, 70% of fixed Internet connections correspond to fiber optic connections. While, in the case of mobile technologies, 5G already reaches 5,353,619 connections nationwide.

“In a country that is already digital, in its way of solving everyday problems, offering services and guaranteeing a series of opportunities, we see that the trend has been to migrate to high-speed and high-capacity technologies, such as 5G, fiber optics and satellite connections. Today, people not only want to be connected, but to do so through the best connectivity technologies. In this regard, as a Government we have made progress in finding the best solutions that allow us to expand the offer of fiber optic services to all the municipalities of continental Chile. While in the case of 5G, this year we carried out the second spectrum contest that will allow us to have a new player in the market offering this service to its customers. In addition, our country is attractive for the deployment of satellite technology and we already see how different companies offer low-orbit satellite services to the home and to mobile devices,” said the Undersecretary of Telecommunications, Claudio Araya.

On the other hand, over the last year the country has seen the adoption of new connectivity technologies, especially in areas that are geographically difficult to reach, such as low-orbit satellite technologies, which by September 2024 already reach 74,670 connections, representing an increase of 72.7%.
