China’s HMN shipping 500km of optical cable for Petrobras’ fiber network

The roughly 500km of optical cable for federal oil company Petrobras’ submarine fiber project in the Campos basin have left China and are on their way to Brazil, said Blue Marine Telecom, the Zmax Blue Ship Group’s company responsible for the project.

The supplier is HMN Tech, formerly Huawei Marine Networks.

According to a Blue Marine statement, the cable is on board the Bold Maverick vessel and is expected to arrive in Brazil by the end of August.

The same vessel will be used to install the cables, which will form the main trunk of the mesh network.

All the optical transmission equipment, known as DWDM, that will be part of the system have already been manufactured, tested and shipped to Brazil. The DWDM gear is also supplied by Huawei.

The Campos basin project also encompasses the construction of a cable landing station in Anchieta, Espírito Santo state, and the expansion of an existing one in Barra do Furado, Rio de Janeiro.

The stations will be connected through the fiber to 12 offshore oil and gas exploration and production units.

As previously reported by BNamericas, the Campos deployment runs in parallel with the Santos basin one and is set to begin in the second half this year, with completion slated for March 2025.
