Chubb sends claims executives to Puerto Rico

Global insurance giant Chubb said it was working proactively in Puerto Rico to facilitate claims processes following Hurricane Maria, which hit the island on September 19.

Chubb, in a statement Friday, said a team of claims specialists will travel to Puerto Rico to work with local executives.

A team in Colombia is also assisting while communications systems are fully restored.

"The company has confirmed that a corporate jet will be traveling with a team of Chubb claims executives and external adjusters to work on the ground. We will continue to execute the plan over the next week in order to mobilize additional resources to Puerto Rico to continue supporting our policyholders and business partners," Chubb said in a statement.

After placing a direct hit on Dominica as a category 5 storm, Hurricane Maria plowed across Puerto Rico, as the second major tropical system to impact the Caribbean in two weeks. The previous hurricane, Irma, caused up to US$1bn in damage on the bankrupt island.
