Cirion begins building datacenter in Chile

Technology company Cirion announced that it will begin construction of a new carrier-neutral datacenter in Chilean capital Santiago.

The facility, which will be Cirion's second in the country, will have a capacity of 20MW and will be called SAN2. It is expected to start operating early in 2025.

The new datacenter will be built on a 23,000m2 site in the Quilicura industrial district of the city. It will be 2.5km from Cirion's existing site and will have a direct connection to it.

The location will allow access to renewable energy and four independent metropolitan fiber routes, as well as long-distance connectivity to the main cities and technology centers in the region. It is also close to international submarine cable networks, which will facilitate minimum latency between Latin America and other regions.

“The development of this new datacenter in Santiago is another important step on our journey to grow the platform of low-latency, interconnected datacenters and establish a thriving digital ecosystem in Latin America,” said Facundo Castro, CEO of Cirion Technologies.

PERU

The company also announced the construction of a new datacenter in Peru, also with 20MW capacity, in the Macropolis industrial complex of Lurín district, south of capital Lima. As with the new Chilean facility, Cirion plans to open the second Peruvian datacenter in 2025.

Cirion also has a new site under development in Brazil.

Earlier this year, Alejandro Girardotti, director of product, innovation and strategic alliances at Cirion, told BNamericas about the company's plans this year to allocate US$250mn to build three datacenters, expand its installed capacity and improve its connectivity network.

Cirion currently has 18 of its own datacenters in Latin America.
