Cirion starts construction of 2nd Peruvian datacenter
Cirion started construction of its second datacenter in Peru.
The facility in the Macropolis industrial district in Lurín will have colocation capacity of 20MW once completed and is being built in an area of 12,000m2, making it one of the country’s biggest datacenters.
Cirion expects the first phase, aimed at hyperscalers and enterprises, to start operations in the first quarter of 2025.
In a statement, the company said the facility will be among the most energy efficient in the market but did not provide a power usage effectiveness indicator.
According to the company, the datacenter will be connected directly through redundant fiber to Cirion's current site in Lima, about 35km away.
Cirion's fiber network in Peru extends from Talara in the north to Arequipa in the south. From Lima to Arequipa, the network encompasses Lurín, Chilca, Chincha, Pisco and Ica.
Lurín is a strategic location, as it is the country's main submarine cable landing station, used by the South-American Crossing, Fibra Óptica al Pacífico, South-American 1 and the South Pacific Cable System, also known as Mistral.
The company did not disclose the investments for Lurín.
Cirion, however, is backed by its main shareholder, Stonepeak, which has over US$55bn in assets under management worldwide.
Stonepeak paid US$2.7bn for Lumen’s Latin American operations in 2022, rebranding it to Cirion.
At present, Cirion has 18 datacenters in Latin America.
In April, the company announced plans for datacenters in Santiago's Quilicura district, where it acquired 25,000m2 of land, and a third datacenter in Cotia, São Paulo, in addition to Macropolis in Lurín.
The company is expecting to add some 6MW in capacity to its datacenters this year.
