Cirion trails Equinix’s, Ascenty's footsteps with datacenters connection launch

Following the footsteps of competitors Equinix and Ascenty, interconnectivity and datacenter company Cirion Technologies unveiled a platform to facilitate connectivity between multiple sites for its customers.

Dubbed DC Connect, the service enables secure and efficient data transfer between datacenters distributed across the Americas, claims Cirion.

Cirion says that the solution is critical for businesses and organizations that operate in multiple locations and which need a “reliable connection to ensure business continuity and synchronization of their data.”

The concept is similar to Fabric, Equinix's traditional datacenter interconnection service, and ServiceFabric, presented by Ascenty in June for its datacenters in Latin America.

Despite some particularities, all three propose connecting sites in different regions and provide access to major public and private clouds.

Cirion already physically connects more than 160 datacenters in over 60 cities. These sites include the network access point (NAP) of the Americas in Miami, deemed the busiest exchange for traffic in the Americas.

As with Ascenty, connectivity to allow DC Connect is based on proprietary fiber, previously deployed and operated by Cirion.

“DC Connect is the largest regional interconnection system and represents an innovative strategy to leverage regional datacenters, minimizing operational costs and maximizing the efficient use of enterprise resources,” the company said in a release.

Among other features, Cirion says its customers can access ethernet, wavelengths and dark fiber solutions, and also implement a DC-to-Cloud solution, including direct connection to cloud platforms such as AWS Direct Connect, Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute, Google Cloud Interconnect, Oracle Fast Connect, or IBM Direct Link.

Cirion plans to invest US$327mn in datacenters, cables and its overall connectivity ecosystem in Latin America this year, Nelson Fonseca, Cirion's newly appointed president for the datacenters unit, told BNamericas in April.
