Cisco bets on SME credit to ramp up LatAm sales

Cisco launched a credit line to finance the acquisition of IT equipment by small and mid-sized enterprises in Latin America, which have been hit hard by the pandemic.

SMEs in Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Colombia, Mexico and Peru will be able to access the so-called Low Rate Plan, the company said in a presentation.

The credit line offers below-market rates on 36-month loans. It is aimed at equipment costing from US$10,000 to US$250,000 and with at least 70% of Cisco components. The program is available until July 31, 2021.

Cisco operates in 33 Latin American countries through 1,400 partners, but the pandemic has hit spending plans for many of its regional customers.

Worldwide, Cisco’s results for the financial quarter ending July 25 fell by 9% year-over-year to US$12.2bn.

In terms of orders of software and services, the business unit BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) plus Mexico fell the most, down 26% year-over-year.
