CMIC's position on the imposition of general tariffs on Mexican exports to the United States
Mexico City, March 4, 2025
This is an automated translation of the press release issued in Spanish
At the Mexican Chamber of the Construction Industry (CMIC), we recognize the strategic importance of global value chains and international trade linked to the Free Trade Agreement between Mexico, Canada and the United States of America (T-MEC).
This is a trade relationship that benefits all three nations and strengthens regional competitiveness, so it is essential to maintain dialogue, cooperation and respect for international agreements.
In this context, we express our concern regarding the recent decision of the United States of America to impose general tariffs on Mexican exports. This measure generates uncertainty and could negatively impact various economic sectors in our country.
Mexico and the United States have built a close and complementary trade relationship, supported by the USMCA. Any measure that alters this balance must be reviewed based on the mechanisms for dialogue and dispute resolution contemplated in the treaty itself.
The stability and competitiveness of both countries depend on cooperation and the strengthening of their value chains. The tariffs not only affect Mexico and Canada, but also US companies integrated into the region's value chains and, above all, US consumers.
At CMIC, we trust in the ability of the Government of Mexico, headed by our president, Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, to promote a solution that will mitigate the effects of this decision, protecting economic development, productive investment and employment in our country.
We joined forces with the productive sector and our authorities, reiterating our willingness to collaborate in building strategies that strengthen Mexico's competitiveness in international trade.
We will continue to monitor the development of this issue, convinced that dialogue and cooperation will continue to be the pillars of the relationship between both nations.
